Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and the Ethics of Game Reviews

by 08.11.2017

As often happens, Jim Sterling did something completely idiotic. He submitted a game review to Metacritic without finishing the game. He did so in a rage because he came across an admittedly rare bug in the game that made him start over. This video isn’t about Jim, though. Rather, it’s about why there is a necessity for ethics when it comes to game reviews. An ethical writer would have never stopped playing the game and pen a review right then and there. An ethical critic finishes the game, and reviews it as a whole, because an ethical writer knows that there is a dollar amount attached to every word in that review.
