A common mistake artists make when drawing an open mouth, is dropping the jaw straight down instead of rotating it.
This can cause a strange effect when it comes to drawing faces – where the head appears disproportionately elongated.
Looking at the open mouth from a side view, we should see a sloped angle between the front of the skull and the chin, as the jaw swings back on a hinge like mechanism at the back of the skull.
In this short promo clip from Ed Foychuk’s “How To Draw Faces” Course, you’ll learn how the jaw connects to the base of the skull and how it functions when opening and closing the mouth.
