In this comic art demonstration we’ll be penciling in the refined line art for the cover of KOZOR: Descent Into Madness.
KOZOR: Descent Into Madness is LIVE now on IndieGoGo! Featuring 48 pages of intense art that tells a nightmarish tale of foul demons, grizzled warriors and abundant bloodshed. If you’re a fan of medieval horror and dark fantasy – you’ll enjoy this book. Back it today: https://igg.me/at/kozor/x/20658139#/
Today, we’ll be working right over the top of the preliminary draft we whipped up in the previous drawing tutorial which you can check out here: https://youtu.be/BY3G8s-PtQI
So now that we have a rough road map to guide us, we’ll essentially be retracing our steps and tightening up the illustration. Our main objective here is to bring clarity to the drawing, so that we can confidently enter the inking stage with a minimal amount of guess work.
Although we’ll be creating a much cleaner presentation of the drawing, the pencils even at this stage are no where near finished line work. And that’s not the goal either. Right now, our aim is to create a clear representation of the scene and everything that’s included within it with a defined outline.
The line weights, shadow full and neatened hatching will be reserved for the inking stage, to save us having to do it twice over. All we need to know at this point is where everything needs to go, and we’re less concerned with how polished it all looks.
This is part 1 of the refined penciling stage. Stay tuned for part 2!
I hope you enjoy this video and get a ton of value out of it. See if you’re able to apply some of the methods and techniques I’ve shared with you throughout today’s demonstration – and remember to practice them over and over again. This is the best way to build upon your skill set.
PLEASE NOTE: This tutorial may not always be available for free. There’s a good chance it’ll be taken down, re-edited and packaged up as a premium product later on. So if you find this lesson valuable, please make the most of it while it’s available for free, by taking notes and putting as much of it as you can into practice. Save the video onto your hard drive as well if you’d like, so that you can refer back to it later on.
Until next time, keep on drawing.
