The verdict is in, and the first AI comic to have been awarded copyright has lost their case. Calling the AI creator an “art director”, the argument has been made that the creator is more a prompter than a creator, and therefore not entitled to copyright of the images generated by AI. This will surely be seen as a major blow to comic companies hoping to create comics on the cheap without having to pay human creators for their work and subsequent royalties.
