Dana White explained his exclusive deal with UFC and Bud Light is all about “shared values” and the money paid for the sponsorship has nothing to do with it. After all, of course he can get other sponsors so he didn’t “need the money” from Bud Light. HOWEVER, he doesn’t actually know the correct details for 1) how long the boycott for Bud Light has been going on, 2) how many employees AB InBev has (he thinks it’s 65,000, it’s actually 19,000) or 3) how many years AB InBev has been funding scholarships for fallen heroes and more.
What Dana does actually know and fully understands is AB InBev has a tremendous international business presence in China and other countries that Constellation Brands (who makes Modello in the US) does not– and neither does UFC, at least not yet. Dana is trying to build UFC as a global brand and a sponsor like AB InBev who already has all the right relationships in place in China can make things happen for UFC and make them happen FAST. He’s doing the deal for Bud Light because there’s probably no other men’s brand like UFC that can help Bud Light like he can, and there’s no other sponsor who can and will help UFC like AB InBev can. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. Dana seems like he is not being completely honest based on how he carries himself in his interviews. He should just tell people what is actually going on with the deal with Bud Light and let people judge for themselves how they feel about it. I see the logic in the deal, but I don’t see the logic in not being up front about it.
