When you hear of a creator’s works earning $4 million in crowdfunding, you’d think that they’re well taken care of by the company, right? Not in the case of Larry Hama, whose GI Joe work has been reprinted and he earns absolutely no royalties for it. This is not a unique case for many creators who have worked on licensed properties. Should creators continue to work for publishers, or for themselves?
