Ain’t No Grave is best described as a genre-bending, original macabre Western/Fantasy tale for mature readers—an Unforgiven-style journey through a Guillermo Del Toro-esque lens.

Isn’t that the most press release-y sentence you’ve ever read? I’m pretty proud of it! Let me tell you a little about this project before you scroll down and lose your mind over Jorge’s art, Jean’s colors and Nates lettering.

I’ve written several stories from a kid’s perspective. About being bullied, about being lost for years and feeling caught between child and adulthood and of what it’s like to feel doomed to become the monsters hiding out in the shadows of our past. All of those being pulled from my life in various ways, big and small. This time, I’m tackling a tale from an adults perspective. More specifically, a parent’s. As a father of two kids, I quickly learned parenting involves a ton of imagining. Imagining what you want for them, who they’ll become, and other sweet thoughts of a life lived. But also, you spend time imagining what can happen to them, what will happen to them if something happens to you, and other not so fun thoughts of a life you fear won’t be lived. Delightful, right?

I tapped into that darker side of my imagination to write Ryder’s story. The journey of a person who has lived a not so great life but was changed by three hearts. Her man’s, her child’s and her own. This story explores the length one will go to not lose their home after years of not knowing what that word really meant. What would you do when something, or someone threatens to take you away from all you hold dear? Ryder knows.

On May 8th, 2024, the double-sized AIN’T NO GRAVE #1 will be available wherever comics are sold. Now, go check out this preview of what you have to look forward to.
