Why some Artists LOVE the Most BORING Task in Comics

by 02.13.2025

My video art diary of my work for my independent comic book, The Lucent. This page is from my upcoming one-shot, The Lucent: Fractured Mind. It’s a prequel to my series, taking place 6 months before the events of Waking Dream and Painted Death . In it I’m digitally flatting in the colours, a task that is often considered the most boring part of the process of making comics. It’s the first step taken when starting work on the colours. In this video I reflect on why I actually enjoy flatting, how I find it stress relieving, especially at the end of a long day.

My name is Michael Bancroft and I’m an independent comic book writer and artist. If you’re a fan of the indies, or comic books in general, especially European and French-style Bande Desinnée, then please check out my channel. I want to make more original content based on my own work, so if you’re interested in this kind of video, please hit like, subscribe, and leave a comment.
