My video art diary of my work for my independent comic book, The Lucent. This comic book art is actually for my trading card set, available to order at thelucentcomic.com. In it I’m drawing my own original comic book character, Jude, in a pretty mundane pose, from a straight on angle, because sometimes, that’s just what the story requires of you as an artist. Sure, it’s more fun to draw covers and pin-ups, but with sequential art, the role of the artist is to serve the story, hence you have to consider pacing and tone within each panel, and how that relates to the panels around them. But if you employ techniques such as those described in How to Draw Comics the Marvel way, you should be able to optimise even the most plain panels.
