Are lightsaber fights in Star Wars slowed down to hide their true, blinding speed? In this deep dive, I explore the lore behind viral Jedi and Sith duels, from The Phantom Menace to Revenge of the Sith, and compare them to the lightning-fast battles of Dragon Ball Z’s Z Fighters. Using Star Wars novels, The Clone Wars, and creator insights from George Lucas and Akira Toriyama, we break down whether lightsaber duels are cinematic compromises or shown at full speed. Plus, we visualize what a “true speed” duel would look like and pit Jedi against Z Fighters! Who wins: Yoda or Goku?
