André Øvredal’s new horror movie Passenger (2026) starts with a brilliant, terrifying hook… and then immediately runs out of gas.
In today’s review, we’re talking about Passenger, the brand-new supernatural road-trip horror movie from Paramount Pictures. Directed by André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe) and starring Lou Llobell and Jacob Scipio, this film had a ton of potential to be a gripping, claustrophobic “haunted house on wheels.”
Instead, it gave us a masterclass in wasted potential.
Let’s be completely real: the best part of this entire movie is the first five minutes. The initial setup on the highway is genuinely tense and sets an awesome mood. But the exact moment the opening titles end, the movie swerves directly into every tired, predictable demonic stalking trope we’ve seen a thousand times before.
I honestly just feel bad for Lou Llobell and Jacob Scipio. They both turn in solid performances and try their absolute best to give this van-life nightmare some real emotional stakes, but the writing completely fails them.
Did you catch Passenger in theaters today? Did the opening hook work for you, or did the clichés ruin the ride? Let’s vent in the comments!
