A new Spielberg oral history published by Vulture in 2026 reveals that both Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford fought George Lucas over putting aliens in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull — and lost. Producer Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Spielberg and Ford were “struggling with the movie” because they didn’t want a Raiders film involving aliens, leading to a fight with Lucas that ended only when they compromised on interdimensional beings instead. The revelation confirms what Indiana Jones fans have long suspected — Crystal Skull failed because Lucas got his way over the objections of everyone else involved.
