Angel Studios’ Young Washington opened to $20.8 million over July 4th weekend 2026, becoming the studio’s second-biggest live-action opening ever and crushing industry projections of $15 million. Director Jon Erwin announced a sequel titled 1776 is already in development from George Washington’s Mount Vernon on America’s 250th birthday. With a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes against a 58% critics score, an A CinemaScore, and the top-grossing theater located in Utah rather than LA or New York, Young Washington is the latest proof that Hollywood consistently underestimates the faith-based and conservative audience — the same audience that turned Sound of Freedom into a $184 million hit in 2023.
