Hollywood Lost A Billion Dollars This Summer And Two YouTubers With No Budget Beat Them All!

by 07.14.2026

Disney’s live-action Moana opened to $43 million domestically in July 2026 — barely above Snow White’s $42 million bomb from 2025 and well below its $250 million production budget — capping a summer where Supergirl lost $100+ million, Masters of the Universe flopped at $29 million, and The Mandalorian and Grogu collapsed 72% in its second weekend. Meanwhile two first-time YouTube directors made films for under $10 million combined that outperformed or nearly matched every major studio tentpole of the summer.
