Nolan’s Odyssey RUINED Everything Homer Built And I’m FURIOUS!

by 07.17.2026

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey opened July 17, 2026 to a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score and a three-hour-plus runtime that earns its length through strong pacing, a standout Robert Pattinson performance, and a genuinely terrifying Cyclops sequence — but trades Homer’s central thesis for a modern trauma narrative that turns Odysseus’s homecoming triumph into voluntary exile and guilt. The film scores a 6 out of 10 as a movie and significantly lower as an adaptation of Homer, removing the gods as active participants while keeping every monster they’re responsible for, inserting John Wick-style revenge motivation for the dog Argos, and ending with a man punished for winning rather than rewarded for returning home. Travis Scott plays the bard.
