The Marvel Masterworks series will continue to be printed… by Clover Press instead of Marvel?! Not only has Marvel been licensing out their characters to other publishers such as Abram Books (John Byrne’s X-Men Elsewhen and Alex Ross’s Marvel Dimensions), DC Comics is jumping onto the boat with a Green Lantern card game to be crowdfunded. Clover Press’s plan to also crowdfund the Marvel Masterwork series hints that the days of the direct market is over, with a new emphasis by the industry to go direct to customer instead. What will happen to retail stores at this rate?
