A longtime Terry Brooks fan was removed from the Shannara author’s fan community after stating he would no longer purchase Grim Oak Press products — a decision he made after the premium fantasy publisher made political statements discouraging conservative readers from buying their books. The incident is a direct example of politics destroying fantasy fandom from the inside: a publisher that alienated conservative customers, then used its influence to remove a fan from an unrelated community when that fan made a consumer decision based on the publisher’s own public statements.
