Netflix Canceled Drizzt Do’Urden, Replaced D&D With A Tragic ROMANCE Show And Fans Are DONE!

by 09.07.2026

Netflix canceled its Forgotten Realms series — a planned adaptation built around Drizzt Do’Urden, Dungeons and Dragons’ most recognizable character and the anchor of R.A. Salvatore’s decades-long Dark Elf saga — and replaced it with Ravenloft, a prestige gothic fantasy series described by Netflix as built around “tragic romance” and chronicling the making of vampire Darklord Strahd von Zarovich through “power, love, obsession, and undead transformation.” Alfonso Cuarón directs and John August writes the series, with neither having a background in tabletop gaming. The cancellation comes as WotC’s D&D brand is already under pressure from sensitivity reader confirmations, the failed community survey, and the collapse of the Forgotten Realms and Edgar Rice Burroughs licenses — and Netflix’s decision to abandon Drizzt for a vampire romance continues the pattern of studios treating D&D as a content category rather than a specific fandom with specific expectations.
