J. Michael Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5 and story editor of The Real Ghostbusters, posted a lengthy Facebook statement calling out the producers and organizers of the animated series’ 40th anniversary celebrations for failing to mention a single writer in any press release, podcast, livestream, or mini-con announcement — while crediting producers, executives, Hasbro staff, and DIC employees. The Real Ghostbusters writing staff included Linda Woolverton before Beauty and the Beast, Keith Giffen, JM DeMatteis, Michael Reeves, Larry DiTillio, David Gerrold, and others whose work defined the show’s legacy while their names have been systematically omitted from its 40th anniversary recognition. The erasure of writers from their own work’s legacy is a pattern across science fiction, fantasy, animation, and comics publishing that JMS has spent decades fighting against.
