World Fantasy Convention 2026, running October 22-25 at the Oakland Marriott City Center and organized by San Francisco Science Fiction Conventions Inc., has published a Code of Conduct listing political affiliation as a protected category alongside race, religion, and disability — and including a “Free Speech and Artistic Freedom” section explicitly shielding political expression by members. SFSFC is the same organization that banned Jon Del Arroz from Worldcon 76 in 2018, spent over $100,000 defending the resulting defamation lawsuit, and settled in 2021 with a payment of damages and a statement acknowledging the ban announcement may have led readers to incorrectly infer Del Arroz was racist. Del Arroz is attending World Fantasy Con 2026 to find out whether the political-affiliation protection in the code will be enforced or exists in name only.
