Blaine Pardoe wrote BattleTech’s bestselling novel ever — and in 2022, Catalyst Game Labs suspended him for what they called online activities that didn’t align with their publishing vision. Pardoe said publicly he was canceled for being conservative. Now in 2026, Catalyst ran their Mechtober author appreciation event and left him off the list entirely, erasing BattleTech’s most prolific author from their own community celebration. Jon Del Arroz breaks down the pattern of cancel culture in tabletop gaming and what it means when publishers airbrush their own history to punish creators who don’t conform.
