When an artist draws a cover for DC Comics, that is the be all and end all of all payments they will get for that piece of artwork (no, really). JOCK’s Detective Comics #880 cover has been made into a Lego set priced at $169.99, and he will not see a single cent of it. Is this a fair practice in the mainstream comics industry to use and re-use a piece of artwork indefinitely for a one-time fee, or should artists be asking for royalties?
