Someone Called John Campbell A Nazi At World Fantasy Con And Robert Silverberg Had None Of It!

by 10.25.2026

At World Fantasy Con 2026, someone publicly accused John Campbell — the legendary editor of Astounding Science Fiction who discovered Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and A.E. van Vogt — of being a Nazi. And Robert Silverberg, SFWA Grand Master, Hugo and Nebula Award winner, and one of the most important figures in science fiction history, stood up and defended him. I was in the room when it happened. This is what took place, why it matters, and what Robert Silverberg’s response tells you about the difference between the people who built this genre and the people trying to tear it down. This is what real science fiction professionalism looks like.
