Dan Ayoub has been named President of Wizards of the Coast, taking over D&D, Magic: The Gathering, and Hasbro’s digital game portfolio — and I’ve interviewed him before, so I have a real take on what this means. During his D&D tenure, Ayoub ran what he called an “apology tour” after the OGL disaster, and Dark Sun is returning in 2027 with a Mature Content Warning. But Wizards also just cancelled enough game projects to write down $56 million in assets, the D&D and Magic teams are unionizing and Wizards is refusing to recognize it, and no one has been named to replace him in the D&D role he just vacated. In this video I weigh whether Ayoub’s promotion is a genuine sign that Wizards is turning around — or whether D&D fans are about to get burned again.
