Netflix Little House on the Prairie showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine gave three separate interviews in July 2026 to TheWrap, Variety, and ComingSoon confirming she intentionally rewrote Laura Ingalls Wilder’s source material — calling the original books “problematic,” saying frontier individualism “doesn’t cut it,” and telling Variety that conservative fans who object to the changes tend to come around once she’s had a chance to correct them. Sonnenshine’s response to Megyn Kelly’s January warning that the show would be “woke-ified” was to embrace the label and call it a compliment — making her one of the most openly ideological showrunners in recent memory to take on a beloved American classic.
