Science fiction author Jon Del Arroz, who has published over 50 books as an indie author, responds to Howey’s essay point by point — arguing that Howey’s own words reveal his career was built on a specific 2010-2015 Amazon algorithm window that closed years before AI became a factor, and that indie publishing hasn’t died so much as matured past the conditions that made Howey’s specific trajectory possible.
