Paramount Skydance passed on financing John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein’s completed Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves sequel script — the same week the directors told The Playlist they don’t want to “rely on fandom” for their Star Trek reboot and are hoping to reach audiences unfamiliar with the franchise. Hasbro is now shopping the D&D sequel script to other studios. Honor Among Thieves earned a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes and an A- CinemaScore in 2023 before falling short of break-even on a $150 million budget. The directors now tasked with reviving Star Trek for its first theatrical release since 2016 have told franchise fans directly that their loyalty is not what this new film is being built for.
