Raconteur Press is an indie science fiction and fantasy publisher known as a feeder anthology group for Baen Books, closely associated with Larry Correia and the conservative SF/F space, and their co-owner spent months publicly attacking Jon Del Arroz on social media, calling him a bad person and ranting about him on Twitter, while simultaneously accepting and paying Del Arroz for short fiction submitted under pen names. The publisher that positioned itself as a gatekeeper against Del Arroz in the science fiction and fantasy community couldn’t identify his submissions or reject them on merit, they paid him instead. The story exposes how science fiction and fantasy publishing gatekeepers who virtue signal to the Baen Books and Larry Correia audience while attacking conservative authors they personally dislike are enforcing social politics rather than editorial standards.
