The workers behind Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, and MTG Arena have officially announced plans to unionize under the United Wizards of the Coast banner, aligned with the Communications Workers of America. They’ve given Hasbro until October 13 to voluntarily recognize the union — and Hasbro already has a track record of refusing. Their demands include wages, job security, healthcare, remote work protections, and explicit protection against AI replacing their jobs. This isn’t a fringe group: it’s the teams responsible for D&D Beyond, tabletop Magic, and the digital Arena platform. Jon Del Arroz breaks down why this may be the beginning of the end for Hasbro’s control over the gaming industry’s most iconic IP.
