In this video I sit down with Dixie Rose, the 52-page tech-noir crime one-shot written by Matthew Fowler (Seicho 66, The Prospectres) with art by Ricardo Jaime, colors by Marcos Martins, letters by Eric Weathers, and published by Retro Graphic Books.
Set in the year 2102, the story follows private detective Rusty Hammer as he’s hired to investigate the murder of the star performer at the Dixie Rose cabaret club — a seedy hotspot sitting at the base of the planet’s only Rapid Orbital Space Elevator. Expect classic film-noir tropes mixed with sci-fi grit, tough characters, and plenty of babes, brawlers, booze, bullets, and blood.
We go through the book page by page, looking at the story, the atmosphere, and the artwork. Ricardo Jaime’s pencils and inks paired with Marcos Martins’ colors deliver a stylish, pulpy, and unapologetically sexy noir look that fits the material perfectly.
