The first trailer for Netflix’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, directed by Greta Gerwig, is here — and the signs of trouble are already visible. Gerwig set the story in the 1950s instead of the 1900s, opened with Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” as the tone-setter, and brought the same sensibility to Narnia that she brought to Barbie. C.S. Lewis wrote the Chronicles of Narnia as a deeply Christian series about creation, sacrifice, and resurrection. Gerwig’s track record suggests she has a very different agenda. I break down exactly what the trailer is telling us and why Narnia fans should be paying close attention before February 2027.
