I Found a French Western Comic in Paris and I Can’t Stop Staring at It

by 11.06.2026

I brought home a French Western comic from Paris and the art in this album is incredible. Let’s flip through Go West Young Man.

I recently returned from France with a stack of Bande dessinée and I am starting this series by looking at the hardcover album Go West Young Man by Tiburce Oger. This format is a standard for European comics and it provides a massive canvas for the illustrations to shine.

We will examine the panel layout and visual storytelling techniques used throughout the book. Flipping through these pages reveals how the unique aesthetic of a French graphic novel enhances the western genre. It is a great look at the craft behind these stories and why the album format is so effective for this type of art.
