UPDATE: Mark Waid has replied to Bleeding Cool enquiries made earlier today, saying:

“For the record: No one made any sort of plea for donations, no one threw a comic book. Humanoids is eager to partner with retailers, is grateful for their attention, and realizes how critical they are to our success. Mr. Barger–who, to the best of my knowledge, no longer owns a comics store–was politely asked to remove himself after being openly disrespectful in numerous ways throughout the weekend to our sales manager. She–whose name Mr. Barger can’t be bothered to remember or even Google–invariably behaved with exemplary professionalism towards Mr. Barger despite (among other offenses) his referring to her throughout the weekend, repeatedly, only as “girl” or “Hey, girl.” Humanoids has a forty-year history of treating fans and retailers with courtesy and will continue to do so. Speaking not for Humanoids but for myself, however, I personally am sometimes less charitable towards those who are repeatedly disrespectful towards my fellow employees. The Humanoids team thanks Diamond and the retailers for the warm reception and enthusiasm we received during the summit.”

“I would expect nothing less from Mark Waid than this total fiction. I never met Harley before during or after the two instances which Waid was present. both accountants of what happened are 100% accurate and he knows it, let’s hear Harley call me a liar and stake her professional reputation on this. I never spoke to her until after Waid both called me out to her after the presentation or when Waid shoed me away from the booth. I never called her “girl” or “hey girl” EVER so for him to claim the disrespect shown to me at a retailers summit was a response to my actions is a complete lie. He knows this and is trying this narrative to shield him from his actions. there are numerous female reps at publishers throughout this industry that I have dealt with many times and not one of them will echo any such statement. Devils due, aftershock, Image, boom, source point all sent female representatives to Las Vegas and all of which I talked to at some point and not one of them will echo what Waid says is my disrespectful nature. contact them, I’m not afraid. I know the truth and the facts which Waid has presented NONE OF. I stand 100% by everything I said and challenge Harley of Humanoids to comment to the contrary. Waid is trying to save his fall back job, the last I suspect he will have in this industry. I also stand by the fact that when Waid is gone from humanoids I will resume ordering their products.”
