J. Michael Straczynski announced he has taken control of the official Babylon 5 YouTube channel, framing it as a podcast gathering spot for the cast and fandom after more than a decade of failed attempts to revive the 1990s space opera on screen. A 2014 film reboot went nowhere, a 2021 CW reboot collapsed before production began, and the IP has been shopped to buyers with limited success. But a Babylon 5 YouTube channel full of engaged subscribers is exactly the proof of audience a studio needs to greenlight a revival — and Straczynski may be building that proof of concept deliberately, following the same playbook that got Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk’s Firefly podcast turned into an animated film in development.
