George R.R. Martin returned to his Not a Blog page on August 10, 2026 — his first post under his own byline since February 19 — writing about depression, grief, aging, and the stress of the year without mentioning The Winds of Winter once. Martin has not published A Song of Ice and Fire Book 6 in 5,491 days since A Dance with Dragons released July 12, 2011. While Martin was silent for six months, Random House confirmed the 2027 A Song of Ice and Fire calendar — twelve new Tyler Jacobson illustrations and a fold-out poster — as the latest placeholder product for readers still waiting on a book Martin called himself “thirteen years late” on in December 2024. Martin’s post says the book is still coming. Fourteen years of similar posts have trained readers to hear that differently.
