Delilah S. Dawson’s Brona: The First Druids of Shannara publishes August 25, 2026 — the first book in Terry Brooks’ handoff to be written primarily by Dawson rather than Brooks. In 2015 Dawson published a post titled “I Messed Up” at YA Outside the Lines, apologizing because her debut steampunk series had almost no characters of color and vowing to correct this going forward. Shannara is a 48-year-old epic fantasy series drawn from Northern European literary traditions — and readers picking up the series under new management deserve to know what its new author has publicly said about how she approaches diversity in her own fiction before spending their money on August 25.
