Amazon MGM canceled Martin Gero’s new Stargate revival after 20 weeks of active development — casting was underway, sets were being designed, and then Blair Fetter, Amazon’s new Head of Genre Series, killed it three months after it was greenlit. Fans responded with a 70,000-signature petition, a banner flown over Amazon headquarters, and now a coordinated fan film campaign under the #SaveStargate banner. Jon Del Arroz makes his impassioned case for why the fan film is the smartest move the Stargate fandom has ever made — and why it might actually be enough to get Amazon’s attention.
